Restructuring the Ormeaux school complex involves the renovation of an existing building and the construction of a new one. While the structure of the existing building has been preserved, the interior of the school has been redesigned. On the outside, a new thermal envelope in wood wool improves the comfort of the classrooms. On the facade, the application of a noble, long-lasting colored cement fiber cladding tells the constructive story of this thermal rehabilitation, and renews the aesthetics of the building. For the new building, two construction methods are superimposed to meet future requirements. On the ground floor, a prefabricated post-and-beam concrete structure with prestressed slabs defines a simple volume, ensuring stability and acoustic comfort between levels. On the upper floor, reduced spans and loads offer the opportunity to consider prefabricated timber construction. The interior architecture of the spaces on the upper level is characterized by this material, whether in the work areas, the restaurant or the corridors, which benefit from the exposed wood frame. The facades of the new building are made entirely of reused terracotta bricks.
