Equidistant from two major crossroads - Barbès Rochechouart in Paris and Pleyel in Saint Ouen, the Porte de Clignancourt sector dialogues with strong polarities and established practices. The intersection of a North-South penetrating logic and an East-West radiating logic generates a consciousness of the large scales, thus claiming a public space suitable for local intensities.
It is necessary to overcome the lexical field of the passage and the crossing, and propose, for Paris’ gateways, a state of centrality that would privilege the vocabulary of destination.
The Porte de Clignancourt becomes a Square, at once local, intercommunal and metropolitan. The qualities of this public space are coloured by the presence of the local forces - flea-market, sports centre, the green belt’s mail, residents, HBM, students – and responds to them with a clear geometry and a generous availability.
