The Sambre is a considerable economic and landscape spine for the city of Maubeuge, and for the whole Maubeuge Val de Sambre agglomeration. Its plentiful advantages, both in terms of the programmes it supports and the identity it emits, make it a decisive tool for the metropolitan future of the territory it crosses.
Also, the river and the railways have always sustained a close and special relationship. Between the two the large industries formally established themselves, and recently some large facilities have done so. How could this tendency be prolonged, and how to bring closer Maubeuge’s station district to the Sambre banks?
The strategy we choose is to reconcile urban environment and natural landscape, in such a way that it doesn’t isolate the new districts, and to insert them sustainably with a strategy regarding both the city of Maubeuge and the whole of its agglomeration.
