The Moulon development zone blends in with the wider landscape and transport infrastructure, creating a new domestic scale for future residents. The urban layout is based on large courtyards bordered by two rows of buildings, providing residents with new privacy and views into the distance. Our proposal incorporates these ambitions and, through its volumetry, aligns with these major urban principles. A first low-rise building aligned with Boulevard Nord and adjoining lot MC21 ensures the continuity of the base and the construction of a continuous built front. A second, taller building is aligned along the alleyway and, through its scale, assumes a certain monumentality. Orientation is a fundamental parameter in determining the quality of a dwelling. The west, which has a low sun path, is a harmful cardinal direction during the hottest periods. The axis of the sun's rays requires substantial protection to reduce heat penetration and minimise overheating. The south, on the other hand, has a higher sun path, and its rays penetrate less into the apartments.
These climatic considerations will be the key parameter in the design of the dwellings. As the main building faces east-west, the aim is to find the optimum angle of inclination, approximately 20°, thereby providing the ideal orientation for all rooms prone to overheating. The sloping layout is the result of this strategy, combining urban requirements with considerations of comfort.
